Positive Thinking and Stress Relief
Thoughts are those that bring about stress. In fact, people who think happy, calming thoughts and don’t focus their thoughts on things that make them worry, feel sad, uneasy or uncomfortable are much less likely to suffer from stress and stress related illnesses. For this reason positive thinking and stress are closely related. If you are suffering from stress, positive thinking can make it go away.
While this sounds too simple and too easy to be true, many researchers have proven that within a couple of days, you can change your health condition and your stress levels completely.
Positive thinking and stress relief techniques:
There are two ways in which you can practice positive thinking as a mean to relieving stress. If you’re not sure which one to choose, simply try both and see which one is more effective.
Method one
Sit comfortably in a quiet room and repeat to yourself a positive statement. You can construct your own statement or use one of the following:
“I am feeling relaxed, my toes are relaxed, my legs are relaxed, my abdomen is relaxed, my hands are relaxed, my arms are relaxed, I am now relaxing and breathing freely.”
“I am feeling very calm, I am thinking positive thoughts about things that make me happy”.
The key to making an effective statement is finding one which you believe and can repeat with emotion. See yourself relaxing and breathing deep, cleansing breaths.
Method two
Lie down and make yourself comfortable. This technique should be used at night time when you go to sleep. Think about the very issue that is making you feel stressed. It can be a stressful situation at work, a medical condition, and important exam or any other stressing condition.
Now, imagine yourself in a situation that takes away the need to feel stressed. For example, if you’re worried about a sickness, imagine yourself healthy and taking a stroll in the park (or doing any other activity that indicates that you are healthy). If you’re worried about an exam, imagine yourself taking the test, seeing the questions and knowing that you know the answer to each and every one of the questions.
Make this mental image one that you can believe. Only believable positive thoughts were produced the desired result of lowering your stress levels to the point where you are no longer stressed.
Repeat this every night, until you feel that you are no longer stressed out when thinking of that issue.
