Stress Treatment is a Healthy Choice

Stress treatment begins with a cause.   One does not have to dig very deep to find the causes and the need for stress treatment in today’s modern society.  Some of the reasons that compel an individual to seek stress treatment are self imposed and some are brought upon by others or by conditions of the environment.  Self-imposed causes of stress include, but are not limited to, (self) abuse by means of drugs and/or alcohol, incessant worrying over issues that are and are not real, and low self-esteem.  Situations that create the need for stress treatment brought upon by others include violations (abuse, physical and sexual), divorce, and arguments.  Environmental situations that incur stress include moving, a job change, and financial problems.

The primary issue is the self.  A person learns coping mechanisms at an early age.  They are usually taught by parents.  Coping mechanisms may not necessarily be healthy means of stress treatment, yet they allow the individual to feel temporary relief from the stressful situations that occur in daily life.  An individual can survive years of stress with the aid of coping mechanisms, only to realize at some point that the coping mechanisms may be a source of stress.

Drugs/alcohol - One of the most common ways of coping is through drugs and alcohol use.  These mind and emotional numbing substances can feel like they are beneficial in stress treatment, but in reality they only compound the stress.  Regular use of these substances to deal with stress may lead to abuse.  Other symptoms are financial setbacks, dependency, and low self-esteem.  Treating the substance abuse issue is the first order; stress treatment is a close second.  In some circumstances, substance abuse treatment and stress treatment go hand in hand.

Methods of stress treatment vary, as do individuals.  What is important is to find the stress treatment method that works the best, personally.  Exercise is one of the leading methods of stress treatment.  Stress builds in the muscles and can actually cause prolonged medical issues if the muscles are not given a chance to be used.  Meditation is another successful form of stress treatment.  Allowing the body and the mind to relax and not wander into stressful thoughts can allow a person to feel better about themselves and their lives.  Stress treatment can be applied in the form of small breaks at work.  If the workload is accumulating, simply step away from the office for a few minutes to release the pressures even for a moment.

Stress treatment can provide an individual with a new approach to problems.  Stress treatment can also instill confidence in dealing with situations that cause the stress.  Life is too short to live without a method of stress treatment, as stress can even shorten life.
